Children will be greeted by a member of staff who will ensure they are happy and settled when leaving their parent/carer.
Free play
Children use this time to access the indoor and outdoor environment of their choosing. These activities include role play, construction, craft, play dough, small world activities, musical instruments, sand and water, sit and ride toys, puzzles, mark making opportunities and much more. This is to support every area of development.
Children are also given the chance to access our rolling snack.
Snack time-During free play
A healthy snack is provided for the children to select independently from our snack area, which includes fresh fruit and vegetables, wraps, breadsticks and occasionally cereal and soup.
Children wash their hands to understand hygiene rules and can choose to sit with their friends during this time.
Milk and water is on offer with snack and children can independently pour their own drinks from the small jugs. Water is provided throughout the day which children can access independently.
Packing away and hand washing/toilet
All children are encouraged to help pack away toys. Stickers and rewards support the children’s development.
Children can ask to go to the toilet throughout the session or access it themselves. This helps to develop self-help skills for all children.
Story time
Story time is used to develop children’s listening skills and concentration. This can be a whole group activity or split into smaller groups, where story sacks are sometimes used which are particularly useful in developing concentration with young children.
Circle time
This activity is at the end of the session and is designed for bringing the whole group together. Action songs and circle games help to build confidence and friendships within large group situations.
Lunch time Options
Children staying for lunch will be provided with a packed lunch
from home. The children remaining for lunch will be encouraged to wash their hands before collecting their lunch boxes and choosing their seat at the lunch tables. When they have finished they are asked to pack it away and place it back onto the side table. Drinks need to be provided for the lunch time period if juice is needed, only milk and water will be available.
Dropping off and collecting your child
On arrival please wait outside until the scheduled start time. A member of staff will man the inner door at the start of each session to ensure the safety and security of all the children. It is very important that you ensure that your child enters the hall and that a member of staff is aware of their arrival as we cannot take responsibility for them until this has happened.
If someone else is to collect your child please make prior arrangements with the staff and inform the person collecting the child your password as we cannot release your child into the care of anyone who is not registered with us and doesn’t know your private password or if they are under 16 years of age.
At our pre-school your child’s safety is paramount we therefore have a collection procedure which we ask you to follow. At pick up time please wait outside until the door is opened, once you have entered the hall please wait until your child is called by the appropriate member of staff from the circle area.
